The Minister of Agriculture, Patrix Severe, accompanied by several senior executives of the institution and the Development Organization of the Artibonite Valley, paid a visit to the Artibonite Valley on Thursday. The purpose of this trip is to inquire about the difficulties facing this production area. The holder of Damien took the opportunity to discuss with planters, irrigators associations, and the Coordination of the Project to Strengthen the national production of rice seeds (ANSWER) on the best measures to adopt to facilitate the availability of water. on plots and quality seeds for the benefit of all producers in the region.
Under the orders of the Minister, a mechanical shovel is already at work in the Grande-Saline canal and by Monday, another machine will be dispatched to finish quickly with this work for the benefit of several thousand farmers and breeders before starting work of this same scale in several other canals of the Valley.
At the same time, several thousand bags of seeds were distributed. The Director-General of ODVA, Jocelyn Jean, who accompanied the delegation, said that through the RESPONSE Project, five thousand bags of seeds were made available to planters and each cooperative has already received the first batch of four- twenty bags. This amount, says the Minister, is not sufficient. He promises to do everything possible to find the balance in order to serve all the planters. Because Artibonite, he insists, is one of the priority areas for the ministry in its approach to guarantee the availability of food products throughout the territory during and after the Coronavirus pandemic.
